Mark Cavendish Officially Joins Bahrain – Merida
The riddle about Mark Cavendish’s future has finally been answered. The British sprinter officially joined Bahrain – Merida for the 2020 racing season. According to Cavendish, joining this team was like a dream come true.
Cavendish’s fate was blurred because his contract with Dimension Data ended this year. The greeting wasn’t as bright as it used to be. He is no longer the choice of the Dimension Data team to race on the 2019 Grand Tour.
Cavendish then turned the wheel to the track number . The 34-year-old racer took part in London’s Six Day , October 22-27. He was also confirmed to be taking part in the Six Days of Ghent, 12-17 November.
When the future of Cavendish in street bike racing is predicted to run out, Bahrain – Merida is present as a helper deity. “Joining this team is fulfilling my long-standing ambitions. It’s like a dream come true, “he admitted.
Rod Ellingworth is the actor behind Cavendish’s move to Bahrain – Merida. Both have a very special relationship for a dozen years. Ellingworth is like a mentor and a role model for Cavendish.
“Rod was instrumental in helping me develop as a racer, and as a human being,” Cavendish told the team’s official website.
As the Bahrain-Merida Team Principal, Ellingworth said that Cavendish’s arrival completed the composition of his team to welcome the 2020 season. It’s just that he did not mention how long the Cavendish contract was.
“He gave us the balance the team needed to win,” said the 47-year-old man.
Ellingworth praised his students as a true champion. Cavendish has won 30 Tour de France stages, and won in the 15 Giro d’Italia stages. Not only that, Cavendish is the 2011 road race world champion .
“I am pleased to see the energy, and his determination to succeed is greater than before. We will make every effort to enable Mark to do the best, “added Ellingworth.
Besides Ellingworth, the emergence of McLaren as the owner of a 50 percent stake in Bahrain-Merida also has a share. This British motorsport company has designed a special bicycle that was driven by Cavendish while racing on the HTC-Highroad team.
“Mark has been a friend of McLaren for years. I am also glad he joined this team, “said John Allert, Managing Director of McLaren Pro Cycling.
Cavendish’s presence could be a solace for the team that will change its name to Bahrain-McLaren in the 2020 racing season. The reason, they have just lost two main drivers, namely Vincenzo Nibali, and Rohan Dennis.
The Cavendish figure also complements the composition of the sprinters in the team from the Middle East. Previously, Bahrain-Merida only had two names, namely Sonny Colbrelli, and Phil Bauhaus. Not surprisingly, Colbrelli claimed to be happy with the arrival of Cavendish.
“We all hope he makes a comeback . Returned to the Cavendish that we know, and ended his career with a big win. He might not win 15 races a year like in his prime. However, I’m sure he can win again, “Colbrelli told Cycling News.
