Brescia, Mario’s Place Forget His Family
Mario Balotelli had played in big teams like Inter Milan, AC Milan, Manchester City and Liverpool.
But the last four years he worked in France defending OGC Nice continued one season in Marseille. Now as of 2019/20, Super Mario returns to Italy to defend Brescia.
Brescia is home to Mario. But for his biological parents, Thomas and Rose Barwuah, Brescia is where they lost their second child, Mario Barwuah. Since living in Brescia, Mario has never returned to the bosom of Thomas and Rose. In fact, as time went by, Barwuah seemed to have died, because he continued to live with the family name of his adopted parents, Balotelli.
Thomas and Rose are immigrants from Ghana. Both of them lived and raised their children in Palermo. After giving birth to Abigail in 1987, Rose gave birth to the first son named Mario Barwuah in 1990.
But since birth, Mario often needs treatment for his unstable health. Mario has to commute hospital. Not a well-off family, this situation depressed Thomas and Rose. Thomas even had to work in a place that traveled for 12 hours by train to meet family expenses, especially Mario’s hospital costs.
Thomas then brought his entire family to Brescia in 1992. The city is known as an elite and industrial area. Thomas’s goal, of course, is to find a high-paying job so that his entire family can prosper. Moreover, he needs additional costs for healing Mario.
The move was actually enough to lift the Barwuah family’s economy. But the birth of Mario’s sister, Enoch, made the Barwuah family begin to have financial problems again. Not to mention that Mario still has to continue to get intensive care since he almost lost his life.
“The doctors were worried that he [Mario] would not survive and even we immediately baptized him in the hospital for fear he died,” Thomas said.
“For a year we continued to worry he could not live. He was our first boy, we were happy to have him but we faced the possibility that he would die.”
Mario then has to face surgery to cure his illness. Of course the cost is not cheap. Then Thomas’s colleagues suggested that Mario be better taken care of by another family for a while. Thomas was introduced to several families.
At the same time, a husband and wife, Francesco and Silvia Balotelli, came to offer themselves to Thomas and Rose to take care of Mario. The couple’s life is very affluent, inversely proportional to the Barwuah family. The couple offered to take care of Mario for two years until the treatment process was completed.
Thomas and Rose eventually accepted Francesco and Silvia as Mario’s adoptive parents for a while. There is no concern whatsoever, especially the couple who live north of Brescia do indeed seem to like children, seen from those who already have two sons and one daughter.
But when the promised period to take care of Mario was up, Francesco and Silvia began to have difficulty being contacted and continued to refuse Mario’s return. More than that, Francesco and Silvia continued to try to extend Mario’s stay with him. Had agreed to be extended for one year, it turns out Thomas and Rose must lose Mario forever.
“At first we were not sure but we decided it because maybe it was the best for Mario. We could meet him every week and everything went well. In a few moments, we felt when everything was over, Mario would come back to us. But instead, each of us trying to bring it back, the Balotelli family always adds to the duration of its adoption, “said Thomas.
For 10 years Thomas and Rose tried to persuade the Balotelli family to return Mario.
But the Balotelli family are always reluctant to return Mario. Even worse, when Mario met with his brother and sister, Mario always did not want to talk to Thomas and Rose.
“We can’t afford to pay for lawyers, so Mario grows and grows there. He sometimes comes and visits us, then plays with his brothers and sisters. But he never has time with us, his father and mother. For 10 years we kept trying, the court did not fulfill our wishes. The Balotelli family knew people who were influential in court so we could not do anything. “
Mario, who began his career as a footballer, gradually began to steal the attention of the public.
He briefly underwent trial in Barcelona, but failed to be recruited due to citizenship issues. Finally he joined the Inter Milan academy in 2007.
A year later, the most painful thing for the Barwuah family happened. Mario, who managed to get Italian citizenship to be able to defend the Italian National Team, turned out to take the Balotelli surname for his last name.
“We didn’t know anything about it until we saw it in the news. I don’t know when he has the surname Balotelli. I guess he still has our surname [Barwuah].”
On another occasion, Mario said that he did hate Thomas and Rose.
According to him, if he was not famous, the Barwuah family would definitely not try to bring him back from the Balotelli family.
“If I don’t become Mario Balotelli, surely Mr. and Mrs. Barwuah will never care about me again,” Mario said in an interview.
Upon hearing that, Thomas and Rose give up trying to bring Mario back. According to him, Mario has been influenced by a fake thing by the Balotelli family so that Mario hates his biological parents.
“Mario believes that we left him in the hospital, but that is not true. The Balotelli family doctrine something in his head, it hurts us. We always love Mario, but he has changed. All that because of the Balotelli family, they have made it against us. he said that we only want money from him? That’s not true. We don’t want any money, “said Thomas.
“Now he starts saying that we beat him a lot when he was a child. That was a lie. We never did that. We never did bad things to him. We just want our child to come back. But now it might be too late. As a father, I just hope he’s fine. I was proud when he joined Inter, until now I’m still proud of him. We never left him. That’s why the photo of him with the Barwuah family is always stuck to our wall. “
Mario several times bought game tickets for the Barwuah family. But in important moments, the Barwuah family was not invited. Even at the 2012 European Cup, when scoring goals, Mario celebrated by approaching his adoptive mother, Silvia, who was present at the stadium.
Mario, now known as Balotelli, returned to Italy defending Brescia. He refused the Brazilian team’s proposal, Flamengo, after his contract at Marseille ended. Brescia signed him with a salary of 1.5 million euros per year, not including other bonuses if he managed to make Brescia survive in Serie A.
