Alberto Contador’s bicycle brand was finally released on Tuesday (29/9) this afternoon. Aurum, as the bicycle made by the former winner of the three Grand Tour wins was called. This brand was developed in conjunction with Italian cycling legend Ivan Basso.
This bike has been Contador and Basso’s dream for many years. The manufacture of this bicycle departed from the desire to design their own dream bike. The goal is to build a bike that sets high standards for high-end racers .
The first type released today is Aurum Magma. Claimed to be the best road bike for various route profiles. The Aurum Magma looks to mix light weight and comfortable bikes, modern disc brakes, with the neat integration touches of recent aero bikes.
Designed by a former climber, the Aurum Magma sets out to hit four targets: rigidity, comfort, aerodynamics and light weight. Prior to its launch today, the Magma has also been tested for 500,000 km by 50 riders from the Fundacion Alberto Contador development team.
“This is something we both really invest in personally. We spent a lot of time riding it, perfecting it, and thinking about how to make it better than all the sensational bikes we have ridden in our careers,” said Contador.
Aurum Magma has also passed wind tunnel testing to optimize its aerodynamics. That includes routing the cable from the bar to the front of the head tube to reduce resistance from the external cable, which Aurum calls the ” head tunnel “.
The Aurum Magma frame is available in two colors, blue and black. It weighs 805 grams for the unpainted size 54. The frame can be adjusted for mechanical or electronic shifting . Seatpost is made round conventional 27.2 mm, not aero. This makes replacement easier for the owner.
For full bikes , the Aurum Magma is available with a menu of top spec components from Shimano and Enve, Shimano and Lightweight, or SRAM and Zipp. They confirmed that Aurum Magma has received certification from the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale).
“Magma is the foundation for the Aurum brand, and it is the foundation on which we hope to build with more models in the near future,” explained Contador.
