Annemiek van Vleuten Champion after Running Alone 105 Km

A spectacular victory was won by Annemiek van Vleuten at the women’s elite road race event , UCI Road World Championships 2019, Saturday (September 28). The Dutch racer became the world champion after a solo ride alias escaped alone as far as 105 km!

n the race which took 149.5 km, the Dutch Team really implemented an aggressive strategy. They let the Van Vleuten attack from afar. His teammate, defending champion Anna Van der Breggen, was assigned to stick to whoever was chasing.

Then, Marianne Vos remained on the platoon and prepared for a sprint battle if the platoon remained one at the end of the race.

Apparently, Van Vleuten was not overtaken. The superior group gathered behind him, but were unable to compact him.

With 30 km left, when the race leaves two rounds of the Harrogate Circuit, Chloe Dygert Owen from the United States escapes from the hunter’s group. The 22-year-old individual time trial (ITT) world champion was trying to chase Van Vleuten alone.

However, once again, Van Vleuten was not overtaken. It was precisely Dygert who was exhausted. In fact, with 12 km left, Dygert is overtaken by Van der Breggen and Amanda Spratt (Australia).

In the end, Van Vleuten won 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Anna Van der Breggen completes Dutch success, finishing second. Amanda Spratt was third, Dygert fourth.

This gold medal erased Van Vleuten’s disappointment at the ITT elite women , when he was only able to win a bronze medal. Amazing results for a senior racer, 36 years old.

This is the first road race world title for Van Vleuten. In the ITT category, he has twice won the world championship in 2017 and 2018.

After finishing, after running alone 104 km, Van Vleuten looks still so fresh. He waited at the finish line to congratulate Van der Breggen in second.

After the race, Van Vleuten claimed he did not believe he could win like this. He revealed that Dutch tactics were not uncommon. “We are planning a crazy tactic,” he said.

Fortunately, continued Van Vleuten, he always practiced with a large volume. So he is able to withstand power and speed for that long. “Everyone who knows me knows what I’m practicing,” he said. (riding bicycle)
