Caleb Ewan on the podium in China. The Lotto-Soudal racer won the 2019 Shanghai Criterium Tour de France. Ewan managed to surpass Matteo Trentin (Mitchelton-Scott), and Steven Kruijswijk (Jumbo-Visma).
“It’s great to be able to win in Shanghai. I’m just lucky, I’m on the right track today,” Ewan said after the race on Saturday (11/16) yesterday.
This victory completes Ewan’s slick record throughout 2019. Previously, he also won the Brussels Cycling Classic, and the People’s Choice Classic in Australia. Ewan also won three stages in the 2019 Tour de France. He also won two stages of the Giro d’Italia. Ewan’s victory was even more complete because his Lotto-Soudal team was chosen as the ‘best team’ in this event.
Meanwhile, Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida) won the category of ‘points classification’. This was the last win before moving to Trek-Segafredo.
Meanwhile, the 2019 Shanghai Criterium was also enlivened by the presence of the defending champion Tour de France, Egan Bernal. The sudden appearance of Bernal surprised Nibali, who was sprinting at the time .
“I am very happy to be able to finish this beautiful season in Shanghai. And to be able to show this yellow jersey to the fans here,” said Bernal.
