Overall champion Egan Bernal, Vincenzo Nibali wins stage

Congratulations to Egan Bernal! The young Team Ineos star is on the brink of the overall Tour de France 2019 champion. He was able to secure the yellow jersey in Stage 20 and the closing, which ended in Val Thorens on Saturday (July 27).

Bernal only needs to finish securely in the parade stage 21 at the Champs-Elysees, Paris, this Sunday (28 July). After that, he officially won the Tour de France at the age of 22 years!

Stage 20 is short and intense. Due to the threat of weather and landslides, ASO as the organizer of the Tour de France cut its length from 130 km to only the remaining 59 km. But the ending is still on a 33.4 km climb to Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe (2,365 meters).

Behind him, the superior general classification (GC) continued to step on the gas. Try to shed one another. In the end, almost all reached the last km together. Except for Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-QuickStep), which comes back off and loses a lot of time. Alaphilippe, who had a dozen days wearing a yellow jersey , finally came out of the final podium position.

In the end, Egan Bernal finished in a row with his team mate, defending champion Geraint Thomas.

Once all the results become official at the end of Stage 21 this week, then Bernal and Thomas finish 1-2 in the GC standings. Then, Bernal was the first Tour de France champion from Colombia, and the third youngest in history. As a bonus, Bernal also won the white jersey as the best young driver.

This also means, Team Ineos (formerly Team Sky) has won the Tour de France seven times in the last eight years! Bernal, Thomas and Bradley Wiggins once, plus Chris Froome four times. An amazing dominance.

At the end of Stage 20, Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) also practically secured the green jersey for the seventh time. Tour de France’s most record. While another French rider, Romain Bardet, erased disappointment by securing a polkadot jersey as a mountain classification champion . (riding bicycle)
