The sacking of Julen Lopetegui from the position of coach one day before the opening of the Russian World Cup 2018 made the Spanish National Team undergo the tournament with various dramas outside the field.
Luis Rubiales as the RFEF president then appointed Fernando Hierro as a replacement for Lopetegui. So far, he was able to bring La Furia Roja to qualify for the last 16 as champions of Group B, but his team’s performance in three matches was deemed not to be as expected.
Bernd Schuster, Real Madrid’s former main coach, considers Hierro’s appointment as coach who replaced Lopetegui’s position in the Spanish National Team a big mistake.
“There are two factors that make it difficult for the Spanish National Team now, the first is that Fernando Hierro is not a coach who has sufficient quality to train them and he has no experience in situations like this,” Schuster was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo onFriday. June 29, 2018.
Schuster explained, the Spanish national team players were already familiar with the game scheme adopted by Lopetegui. Factors like that which according to Schuster can make Spain win the World Cup in 2010 ago.
“This squad is used to the approach of (Julen) Lopetegui, the game scheme that he implemented, the solution when facing problems,” Schuster said.
Hierro, according to Schuster, does not have sufficient experience and knowledge to deal with various scenarios that can occur in the field, and also prepares solutions when his team experiences difficulties.
Even so, Schuster said such conditions were not merely Hierro’s fault. “His arrival in a narrow time is indeed not Hierro’s fault, but this made him experience great difficulties,” he concluded.
