DeMarcus Cousins’ injury was a major blow to the Los Angeles Lakers. However, they apparently did not want to give up. The Lakers tried to lobby other players to fill the holes left by Cousins.
According to Shams Charania’s report, The Athletic , the Los Angeles team tried to ask permission to speak to the Memphis Grizzlies flashlight, Dwight Howard. They want to find a way out so that the flashlight can join. Both of them have even shown interest in each other.
Even so, Howard is still under contract with Grizzlies. The Lakers also had to be patient until the Memphis team took it off. Incidentally Grizzlies did intend to release Howard since the player first came there this summer.
Grizzlies got Howard after swapping CJ Miles for the Washington Wizards. However, they did not intend to use Howard’s services. Grizzlies just want to spare their salary space so they can form a team with a younger squad.
Howard himself had said that he was interested in returning to Los Angeles. He opened up to join the Lakers or Clippers.
“I don’t know what will happen, but I like LA,” Howard said. “The Staples Center will be busy this season. When I play there, the arena is always crowded. The atmosphere is crazy, not only for the Lakers but also the Clippers. I think their hard work paid off. They always looked like little Lakers, but now they have decided to stand on their own.
So far, the Clippers appear to be no longer open opportunities for new players. Considering they just recruited Patrick Patterson. The position of the flashlight was also full by Montrezl Harrell and Ivica Zubac.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are in a state of emergency. They lost Cousins because of a knee injury. Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) is damaged so that the player is forced to be absent for a long time.
For the time being, the Lakers can only try. They will continue to lobby until the opportunity is seen. Howard might be one of the options. However, the Lakers also did not rule out the possibility of recruiting other flashlights. One of them is Joakim Noah. The former Grizzlies flashlight, the New York Knicks, and the Chicago Bulls are unemployed. (put)
