Kobe Bryant died in an air accident two days ago. In his honor, Joel Embiid willingly took off Jersei number 21 and replaced it with 24 for one night. The Philadelphia 76ers flashlight did that as a form of homage to Bryant. Moreover, the Legend did wear number 24 in half his career in the NBA.
Embiid wears Bryant’s number when his team faces the Golden State Warriors at Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, Tuesday, January 28, 2020 local time. The Sixers also paid their respects by ringing a bell before the match. They even put Bryant’s Lower Merion school in his side. Incidentally he is a native of Philadelphia.
To wear number 24, Embiid sought permission from the Sixers first. Because, that number has been rested for Bobby Jones. Luckily, the Sixers allowed it so that Embiid could wear it in the match.
Embiid itself appears productive today. He was able to score double 24 points and 10 rebounds. Even though he had just returned to the field after the injury. Embiid even had to be absent for nine matches due to the injury.
The Sixers finally won today. They defeated the Warriors 115-104. They now have a 31-17 win-lose record.
Before Embiid, Trae Young had time to do the same thing. The Atlanta Hawks guard took off number 11 and replaced it with 8. In addition to 24, Bryant did wear number 8.
Now, the legend is gone. However, his figure is eternal. At least in symbols. Embiid remembers him through number 24. Young chose 8. (GNP)
