The First MotoGP Race 2020 Begins 19 and 26 July at Jerez, Without Spectators!

Great news from Spain. The Andalusian government and MotoGP promoter Dorna Sport agreed to start the 2020 MotoGP race at the Jerez Circuit for two consecutive weekends. So there are two races with a gap of a week … Quite interesting even though in one circuit but the format is not the same as the superbike .. Finally Fix: The first MotoGP 2020 race starts July 19 and 26 at Jerez!

On Thursday morning, Juan Antonio Marin, Vice President of the Government of the Andalusian Region, Mamen Sanchez Diaz, Mayor of Jerez de la Frontera, and CEO Dorna Carmelo Ezpeleta held a virtual meeting. What has now been officially confirmed: an agreement was reached for July 19 and pocketed another race permit on July 26 at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto.

No Audience

The proposal is now being submitted to the central government health authority, which is likely to give the green light to the project. Because those responsible assume that the situation regarding the pandemic will be relaxed. In such a way in the next two months that the event in the form of a closed race without spectators. Then reduce personnel in the paddock (ideally only 1,000 to 1,100 people). Details of the “race protocol behind closed doors” are being worked on, because Carmelo Ezpeleta has been voicing the idea for the past few days.

Because of the health crisis, Dorna had to design a new business model, because for now only an audience-free race can be held. In countries where MotoGP is held, where there are no local, city or state governments with financial injections for promoters, as Dorna contract partners (such as in Jerez, Aragon, Valencia, Brno, Phillip Island, Sepang, Buriram etc.) … Meanwhile Sachsenring, Assen and KymiRing were removed without replacement.

Dorna’s contract partner in Jerez is an autonomous region of Andalusia, which is 87,268 square kilometers larger than Austria and only slightly smaller than Portugal. Around 8.5 million people live in this region (consisting of 8 provinces), making it the most populous in all of Spain. The local government of Andalusia often advertises in races with the slogan “Visit Andalusia”.

Promote Tourism

After the lockdown, tourism must also be encouraged again. For the first time with a MotoGP double race on July 19 (Spanish Grand Prix) and July 26 (Andalusian Grand Prix). While the Superbike World Championship will follow on August 2nd.

After that, MotoGP teams had to travel to Brno-Czech (9 August). And Spielberg-Austria (August 16), but the Czech Republic GP looks shaky. Therefore, a double race in Austria on August 9 and 16 is likely to be rolled out.
